The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
